Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) has created an event to celebrate the contributions of female leaders on St. Kitts and Nevis for their individual accomplishments and their efforts to further increase gender parity. The RUSVM Purple Glam Gala and Awards Ceremony will be held on March 8, 2019, in honor of International Women’s Day. Honorees were nominated by their organizations and then selected by an event committee.

The event is led by RUSVM’s Empowerment Diversity Growth Excellence (EDGE) Chapter, which is a network of leaders and professionals who work to accelerate the advancement of women across the University and at Adtalem Global Education broadly. With 22 chapters at Adtalem institutions around the world, EDGE hosts events and activities that feature strong female leaders who empower and inspire attendees, sharing knowledge and creating aspirations.

Guest speaker Jihan Williams, an attorney for the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, will share her unique perspective on this year’s theme, #BalanceforBetter. The evening will include dinner, awards, live entertainment and giveaways. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Project Viola, a charity that supports teen mothers and their children in the Federation.

“Gender equality is an issue that we continue to address on St. Kitts and across the globe, and where there are advancements, it is worth celebrating those advancements as a community. I’m pleased that our EDGE chapter is leading this important ceremony, where attendees will be inspired by the stories of women across the Federation who have challenged gender biases and risen above them,” said Dr. Sean Callanan MVB, MRCVS, CertVR, PhD, DipECVP, FRCPath and dean of RUSVM.

“Last year the University held a Motivational breakfast ceremony, and this year we wanted to recognize the work of female leaders who have gone above and beyond expectations in a bigger and better way,” said event coordinator Candita Chapman, laboratory manager at RUSVM and a member of RUSVM EDGE Chapter.

The gala will be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available for $150EC at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, Digital Print Plus on Princes Street, Basseterre or by calling 465-4161 Ext. 401-1349 or 401-1153.
