Dr. Danika Bowen

Carrington College, part of educational services provider Adtalem Global Education, has announced the election of Dr. Danika Bowen to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC). Carrington College is accredited by ACCJC/WASC.

The Commission consists of 19 members elected by ACCJC member institutions and comprises the Board of Directors of ACCJC. It is the responsibility of the Commission, as a decision-making body, to determine the accredited status of an institution. ACCJC is responsible for the accreditation of approximately 125 institutions.

“We are pleased that Dr. Bowen will bring her years of experience within the for-profit education sector to her work on the Commission. Having been an accreditation liaison officer for more than seven years, and serving as a peer evaluator on three ACCJC visit teams, she will be able to draw on many insights into the accreditation processes,” said Dr. Richard Winn, president of ACCJC.

Dr. Bowen has been Carrington College’s accreditation liaison officer for the past seven years, maintaining institutional records of accreditation activities and helping organize institutional responses to ACCJC requests. She facilitated the 2013 Accreditation visit by ACCJC that resulted in Carrington’s accreditation. Dr. Bowen has served on three visiting teams, working with peers to evaluate campuses for compliance to the ACCJC standards and eligibility requirements. Additionally, she has participated in four follow-up evaluations, revisiting institutions to confirm changes requested in the initial accreditation visit were completed. Dr. Bowen also served on the nominating committee for Commissioners in 2015.

“Serving as Carrington’s accreditation liaison officer has been truly enjoyable and rewarding. I’m honored to join ACCJC in this capacity for the next three years and look forward to contributing meaningfully to the Commission,” Dr. Bowen said.

Dr. Bowen began her three-year term as a Commissioner on November 1.
